Flashcards: The Fun Spark in Language Learning

"Flashcards: The Fun Spark in Language Learning"

Discovering the joy of learning a language can be a challenge, but at Spanish Super Tutor, we've found that using flashcards completely transforms the learning experience. Why? Flashcards make learning fun, interactive, and allow us to achieve fluency much faster.

Our teaching approach is centered on continuous interaction with the student. However, we’ve realized that endlessly explaining grammar and rules can be monotonous for an hour-long class. Therefore, we turn to flashcards, where the student reads a phrase and identifies a keyword. This keyword is the gateway to remembering the flashcard with 90% effectiveness.

For example, let’s talk about Juan, who wakes up every morning at 9 to run around the city before returning home, having breakfast, showering, and going to work. The sentence isn't very long, but it’s difficult to remember as a whole, and if you do, it’s likely to stay in your memory for only five minutes before fading away.

But what if we break down this story into keywords and create six flashcards? The student will remember much better, which will enable them to construct a speech more easily.

Flashcard Examples:

First flashcard:

  • Juan se despierta a las nueve (Juan wakes up at nine)

  • (You set the flashcard aside and try to remember it)

Second flashcard:

  • Sale a correr por la ciudad (He goes for a run around the city)

  • (You set aside the flashcard and remember the first and the second)

Third flashcard:

  • Llega a casa a las diez (He gets home at ten)

  • (You set aside the flashcard and remember the first, second, and third)

Fourth flashcard:

  • Se ducha (He takes a shower)

  • (You repeat the process)

Fifth flashcard:

  • Desayuna con su esposa (He has breakfast with his wife)

  • (You continue remembering them in order)

Sixth flashcard:

  • Se va al trabajo a las diez y media (He goes to work at ten thirty)

  • (You memorize all in sequence)

Final Exercise:Repeat all the flashcards from the first to the last, thus strengthening the retention of the complete story both in Spanish and its corresponding English translation.

This method not only makes learning more interactive and less monotonous but also builds solid bridges towards long-term retention. Make your study sessions more effective and endearing with flashcards at Spanish Super Tutor!
