10 Ways to Say "WHATEVER" in Spanish

Sometimes we want to express that feeling of indifference or flexibility in Spanish, but we can't find the right word. In English, "whatever" is that all-purpose expression. Here are 10 ways to convey that same feeling in Spanish, with examples for each one.

10 Ways to Say "WHATEVER" in Spanish

1. Lo que sea (Whatever it is)

To express indifference towards a choice.

  • Example: "You can choose whatever for dinner, I'm fine with anything."

2. Cualquier cosa (Anything)

When any option is equally valid.

  • Example: "If you don't know what to get me, anything is fine."

3. Me da igual (It's all the same to me)

Indifference made into a phrase.

  • Example: "Shall we go to the movies or the theater? It's all the same to me."

4. No importa (It doesn't matter)

Similar to "it's all the same to me," but with a nuance of less interest.

  • Example: "Are you staying in this class or changing? It doesn't matter, I'll do whatever."

5. Da lo mismo (It makes no difference)

When the outcome doesn't change, regardless of the decision.

  • Example: "You can talk about whatever, it makes no difference, I just want to listen."

6. Total... (Anyway...)

To play down the importance of the decision at hand.

  • Example: "Anyway, whatever you choose is fine for everyone."

7. Como quieras (However you want)

To leave the decision entirely up to someone else.

  • Example: "Pizza or sushi for dinner? However you want, it's my treat."

8. A mí, plin (I couldn't care less)

A colloquial way to show disinterest.

  • Example: "Shall we go to the beach or the mountains? I couldn't care less, I've got my swimsuit and hiking boots."

9. Ni fu, ni fa (Neither here nor there)

Another colloquial expression equivalent to a very neutral "it's all the same to me."

  • Example: "Action movie or romantic comedy? Neither here nor there."

10. Como sea (However it is)

Focused on the way of doing something rather than on the choice itself.

  • Example: "Choose whichever path you want, we'll end up at the same place, however it is."
